Looking for TV's made in the USA is difficult. An individual must go back to the Olevia LCD TV made by Syntax-Brillian from 2005-2008 to find a television wholly made in the US. Syntax-Brillian filed bankruptcy and was purchased by Emerson in 2009. Today there are televisions that may be assembled in the US, but the parts are manufactured in Asia.
Of more interest to the reader may be television manufacturers that are American-owned. These include Alercon, Emerson, GE, Realistic, Sears, Sound design, Bell & Howell, Admiral, and Signature 2000. Japanese-owned manufacturers include Panasonic, Toshiba, Sharp and Sony which are assembled in the United States.
The components and internal parts for all of these televisions are manufactured primarily by the Funai Corporation and in China which ship them to the United States where they are assembled. Some of the televisions are placed in an encasement which is made in the US, but for the most part, the televisions are, for all intents and purposes, made in other countries.
A person wishing to purchase a television that was made in the United States, would need to find an Olevia 740i, which was the last television made in the United States. It should be noted however, that the parts for these televisions were also made in Asia.
For several years electronic components and parts have been manufactured in Asia. This is primarily due to the fact that manufacturing is much less expensive and significantly reduces the cost of the electronics that are being purchased. The competitive market of electronics have forced manufacturers to find the most cost effective means to design and develop the products that are in demand by American consumers.
In order for electronics to be manufactured in the United States, it will be necessary for a resurgence of growth, design, and development that can compete effectively with products made in other countries. This would require that there be a re-evaluation of the cost of production and manufacturing in the US, which is highly unlikely.
